The top four are pretty rock solid (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Departed), but the fifth spot could be debated in my opinion. It's common to give it to Casino or Cape Fear, but I think (after re-watching all of Scorsese's films recently) that both Gangs of New York and The King of Comedy could be argued as his fifth best. Both films need more attention on this site I think.
What do you think? If you feel like organizing his films from best to worst feel free but you don't have to.
BQ: Taxes are coming in soon. That means DVD and Blu binge. Recommend me some that I probably don't have.Do you think Gangs of New York is a top five Scorsese film?
Weird, in all seriousness I was considering watching it each day over the weekend, 3 times (plus Friday). as part of my Daniel Day-Lewis thing, and because I haven't watched it in months.
right now I'd say
1. Raging Bull
2. Goodfellas
3. Taxi Driver
4. The Departed
5. Casino
6. Gangs of New York
but after my Gangs of New York binge it's possible that it can surpass Casino. i really think that every film Scorsese has made; with the exception of Boxcar Bertha, New York New York, and Kundun, can be argued as being in his top 10
BQ- I remember you not liking 28 Days Later but it's one of the only movies I've ever seen on Blu-Ray and it looks incredible.
and also on the Criterion Collection: Fear and Loathing, BrazilDo you think Gangs of New York is a top five Scorsese film?
Not even close. I'd place "After Hours" and "The King of Comedy" before "The Departed."Do you think Gangs of New York is a top five Scorsese film?
I say The King of Comedy should take 5th
BQ: Ip Man, Office Space, Midnight Run
Tough question. Gangs of new york is really well done. I know a few people who don't like it. For me personally I think id have to go Cape Fear or King of Comedy. The king of comedy is hilariously disturbing. I laugh so hard watching it when he's talking with the cardboard cutouts. But cape fear with Deniro and that great music I think pushed it into the 5th spot. Gangs is right there. I think though Daniel Day made the movie THAT much better than it woulda been without him if that makes sense.
Bq- me too man. Can't wait.
Children of men, sin city, the international, body of lies, apocalypse now, doubt( great movie. So underrated)
Mq- not a fan of 28 days later? Oh man I love it
