Well, I think I've found a way to create the ULTIMATE Star Wars set that any fan would appreciate. I'd like to know if you could help me create it and complete it.
I will have three different box sets with the following discs.
Star Wars Original Trilogy Box Set: 9 Discs
Widescreen Remastered 2004 DVD Versions of Episodes IV - VI
Widescreen Original Theatrical 2006 DVD Version of Episodes IV - VI
2011 Blu Ray Versions of Episodes IV - VI
Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Boxset: 9 Discs
Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Widescreen DVD Editions Episodes I - III
Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Blu ray Episodes I - III
Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Special Features Disc (for each film, there's a second disc if you buy each film separately) I - III
Star Wars Bonus Features Set: 4 Discs
Star Wars Bonus Material DVD packaged in the 2004 Boxset
3 Star Wars Bonus DVDs packed within the recent 2011 Star Wars Blu Ray Release
Extremely nerdy, I know. I'd just like some organization. I'm planning to buy 9-Disc DVD cases for the two boxiest and get a 4-Disc Case for the Bonus Features. Am I missing anything??GEEK QUESTION OF THE WEEK: I am thinking about creating my own Star Wars Complete Collection. Opinions?
This is a good thought, but this would not actually be the Ultimate Collection for a lot of Star Wars fans. We would get pissed off again if we had this. You have everything thing there that makes up a lot of what we have on discs. But keep in mind the Widescreen Original Theatrical 2006 DVD Version of Episodes lV - Vl are not really the originals that were shown in theaters '77, '80, and '83 or on the original VHS tapes from the early 80's released after the theatrical versions. They are from the '93 laser discs versions which made a poor transfer to the dvds. A lot of people are upset. I think with quality ground breaking films like Star Wars, they should really be preserved in their original form for both historical and nostalgic reasons. A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back have even been inducted into the National Film Registry. A lot of fans want the 'original' Original Trilogy . It should be the original version released in theaters or at least it should be the early '80's VHS versions on the best format possible. I heard people say the original negatives that were f*cked with when they first added special effects can be restored to take out things added, cleaned up, and put on blu - ray discs. First Lucas said we won't get the originalss on DVD, then he said we will get them 2006 but those originals ended up laser disc versions. Also as you know he ads effects, changes dialogue, voices, plot (some what) , and the Blu Rays ? Does he hate his fans? Again we didn't get real originals along with the new Special Editions and he added the biggest abomination. Noooooo..! Is he f*cking stupid? No disrespect to him, but how can he make changes that make the films worse? When Vader was silent it was more dramatic and less pathetic I think.
That being said, I heard people actually try to transfer the VHS to DVD's or to Blu Rays some how? I don't know anything about how to do that or if it's possible. I've seen some DVD's where people try to fix up the laser disc versions and put them on the DVDS, but they weren't very well done. If you can some how some way get the real Unaltered Original Trilogy on Blu - Ray, than it would be a major part of an Ultimate Star Wars Collection that any fan would appreciate. This is what most Star Wars fans want. You may not agree, but this is a big deal for most. Everything else you included is good and makes sense for it to be there.
Additional thoughts: Sorry this is so long, this just what I would think The Ultimate Collection would be and I have nothing else to do right now but sit here and type stuff. I know this is your thing and the way you put it together is good. You could possibly add the documentay 'Star Wars The Legacy Reveled" it was a very well made documentary about the symbolism, mythological and literary influences, spiritualy based concepts, etc..
