If you dont get car sick, reading or playing games are good options. Actually all the things you mentioned are excellent things to do on long car journeys. I went to south italy by car when i was your age and all i did was listen to music all the way! I know you might think your too old for this but "i spy" is still a great game to play on car trips, we still play it now together with our kids, and i'm 30!Can long car journeys be made fun for some people?
I like car rides as long as I have things to do. I really like to:

Listen to music

Read a book

Sleep

Play portable games

Play games with the people I'm in the car with (Play license plate bingo, play the a,b,c game, etc.)

Talk to the people I'm with

So there are some things I like to do.

Have fun in Spain!
Play car cricket.

  • Birthday gift for a girl i've been dating for three weeks?

i've been dating this girl for about three weeks, going on about 4 actual dates, but always talking to each other. her birthday is coming up soon, and i was wondering if i should get her something, my idea was a small dvd set of one of her favorite shows (only $15) but i was a little worried it would look like too much. And also, my birthday passed while we were talking and not dating yet and she didn't get me anything, so i'm worried getting her something might make her feel bad? any suggestions?Birthday gift for a girl i've been dating for three weeks?
seeing as you werent actually dating i think you should go ahead and get her the gift. shell think its very sweet belive me. i talk with girls all the time and they dont buy me gifts :P. but in all seriousness you should get her a gift even if it isnt a lot its the thought that counts and itll show you really care.Birthday gift for a girl i've been dating for three weeks?

Had a fight with bf...who is right?

This fight is really stupid, but I need to know who's wrong. My boyfriend likes to buy and collect DVDs. He buys movies every week, as new releases come out. I have never cared about what movies he buys. In fact, I love that he has such a huge collection. However, I knew that a certain movie (I won't reveal the title) was coming out soon, and I asked him to please not buy it because I want to boycott it. I have very strong feelings about this movie...it contains certain themes and ideas that I don't agree with at all, and I didn't want him to spend money on it. Anyways...he ends up buying it. I came over and saw it on his desk...and no, its not a porno, its a real movie. Well I flipped out, and now we're not speaking.

MY ARGUMENT: I think he was inconsiderate because this was the first time I have ever asked him to boycott a movie...its not like I was asking him to change his life...all I wanted was for him to not buy the damn DVD!!

HIS ARGUMENT: He thinks that I'm making a big deal out of nothing, I have no right to tell him what to buy, and I should get over it.

As a result, I feel like he doesn't care about my feelings and it goes to show that he really has no regard for me. I don't think I was asking for much, but his only defense is that I'm "controlling". Controlling? even though I have NEVER made one remark or request about his movies?? What do you guys think? All honesty (and politeness) is appreciated.Had a fight with bf...who is right?
I think if he is actually a real collector, then i think he has a point. Regardless of your asking if he really is a collector, he should buy it. Don't make a big fight out of it, but I hope he should say sorry or try to reach you out because he knew already that you didn't like it.
trying to force others to boycott jsut because you dont like it is a very leftist thing to do. i'd trhow you out until you properly apologised.

so you never made any rmarks about his dvd collecrting until you wanted to control him but your'e not controlling...?
    boycotting doesnt' really work, btw.

the world is full of kids wo think things are important when they actually have no idea about much of anytihng except the new boycot fad. the last presidential election os proof of how silly kids can be.Had a fight with bf...who is right?
I hate to side with the girl... ;)

But I believe you are more in the right then he is in this argument...

I'd think not buying one DVD out of the thousands that have come out wouldn't kill him..

Plus he's wasting a lot of money buying that crap...
    That's a tuffy!Had a fight with bf...who is right?
I can honestly see both side of the argument.

Its a toughie cause one perspective is that you were trying to pull him into your boycoot and expecting him to feel the same way as you about a subject. Or at the very least not respecting him enough to let him make his own decision.

On the other hand you asked him to SUPPORT in a small act which he did not do. He could have rented the movie at a time where you were not gonna be around etc etc.

If it were me (a guy) I probably would not have boght the movie. I would have watched it online or whatever. My fiancee doesnt ever ask for that stuff usually but the one time she did (asked me not to eat veal) I respected her request. She didnt ask me never to eat it just not in front of her. It seemed fair to me like your request for him to not buy a certain movie.

Nevertheless the damage is done. He has the movie I think it may be time to move on from it. Make the request that he not watch it when you are around. If he cant honor that request then he obviously doesnt care about you!

    Good luck.
Im on the girls side. The guy could have at least seen how important it is for his girl and adjusted that one time.. it shouldn't cause arguments, just for a movie, but sometimes compromises should be made. And since he already did it, i think the girl should adjust and forgive him.. talk it out, calmly and tell him why this means as much as it does to you. Compromises are essential in a relationships, and often times they are so difficult to make, especially when it touches your morals. Maybe after all your not meant to be together...
I completely know where you are coming from. There are certain things that I too am boycotting. However, that is my decision for MY life. I don't tell other people what they should or should not buy for their own use. It's a movie he bought for himself. If he bought it for you, then I would say you have a basis for your argument, but you can't impose your beliefs on anyone else. You are the one that has a problem with it, not him. If he insists on you watching it with him, then he's in the wrong. Ask him to at least hide the movie. Explain what you don't like about it. Maybe he will see your point of view (even if he doesn't agree with it) and not talk about it in your presence.
I think you have reason to be mad if you guys are serious. It sounds like you guys live together. I mean, if you didn't, you wouldn't be getting this mad over it cuz you guys wouldn't be sharing the house or money, I hope. Anyways...

Obviously he just completely ignored you and your feelings. I would be pissed too. You should probably talk to him about it. Like you said, it's not like you asked him to change his life, and that's like the only thing you've ever asked for. That's messed up. I know it's just over a DVD, probably the stupidest thing to argue over, but beneath it is him not listening and being inconsiderate, which is completely okay to be mad over. So go be mad :)
depending on the theme, he probably does but since u r just dating i dont think you have the right to tell him what to buy, just say please dont talk or let me see that movie. If you tell him not to do something its our instinct to do it anyway. he cares about you, but i think you should just go its your life i just dont wanna talk about it or see it

How often does Pioneer update their in-dash car navigation AVIC receivers?

I'm looking at Pioneer's AVIC-F700BT and F90BT receivers (also the AVH-P3100DVD), but I'm wondering if the AVIC F-series will have a new model come out soon. I googled this, but I couldn't find an answer. Does anyone know when their next models will be coming out? I don't want to buy one of these models just to find out a new one is coming out in a month. Thank you in advance!

ps... if anyone has any suggestions on a good double-din receiver with both bluetooth %26amp; ipod functions built-in, please let me know! (I'm not needing DVD or navigation, but it may be a nice option to have)How often does Pioneer update their in-dash car navigation AVIC receivers?
New units by major car audio manufacturers are being released within the next month or two. Pioneer has rights to both future AVIC units, but as far as a release date goes, you're looking at roughly another year. Major retailers don't have an out of stock date on the AVIC units until 2010.

Why won't my computer-burned DVD play on my TV DVD player?

I have burned a Windows Movie Maker project onto a DVD several times in wmv, and avi formats. But every time I put it into the DVD player, a caption comes up that says 'disk error - playback feature may not be available on this disk.' I have no idea what to do, and my project is due soon. I have searched all over the web for this problem, and all I've gotten is discussions about it but no solutions. Help!!!Why won't my computer-burned DVD play on my TV DVD player?
I'm pretty sure it's the fact that your DVD player probably doesn't support avi. and wmv. formats. Sorry dude. Try burning the videos in mpeg format. Many DVD players do support that format. Why won't my computer-burned DVD play on my TV DVD player?

  • Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player - Worth it?

Now that the HD-DVD player comes with five free movies (not yet in the UK, but very soon), do you reckon it's worth it? I mean, I am aware that the HD-DVD is a floundering format, but there are some decent films for it. Also, 拢120 with five films is practically a sign that Microsoft are giving it away, so should I take advantage of this offer? Exclusive titles such as Matrix: Ultimate Collection, Heroes (TV), Batman Begins, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz make me want it even more, regardless of whether its redundant or not. Cheap HD movies = good, eh? Alternatively, there's the option to just get GHIII on release date instead, and forget the whole 'HD-DVD' thing. I'm rather interested in it thought.Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player - Worth it?
In my opinion, none of the HD movie players on the market are worth buying.

Right now, all players will only play half the HD movies on the market. Why would you spend so much money on something that forces you to choose which movies you are - and aren't - going to watch?

The format war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray is far from over - we've probably got at least another 1 to 2 years of this stupidity before there's a clear winner. This brings up another reason to ignore both formats - why would you waste money on a player and media that has a VERY GOOD CHANCE of becoming obsolete within the next 12 to 24 months?

I currently give you 33% odds of picking the "right" format - that is - the player you buy ends up dominating the market, becoming the one, single standard for HD media. Where'd this figure come from?

Common outcomes of a standards war:

1: Format A wins - Format B goes away entirely.

2: Format B wins - Format A goes away entirely.

3: Hybrid players that can play Format A and Format B arrive, making ALL SINGLE FORMAT PLAYERS OBSOLETE.

Outcomes 1 %26amp; 2 are essentially what happened with videocassettes. There was a fight between VHS and Betamax. Guess who won? But not before 1000s of people bought Betamax players. Oops.

Outcome 3 is similar to what happened with burnable DVDs and is why we have DVD-R and DVD+R and DVD-RW and DVD+RW and...so on and so forth. At this rate, hybrid players are the most likely outcome. There's already been some sucessful prototype players released, which normally means full production isn't that far away. Once these players hit the streets, the "war" is over.

The stupid studios and companies wanted the consumer to choose which format would be the winner - which is a stupid, stupid thing to do. Multiple formats just scare off the all-important early adopters, which slows down how fast the format gets accepted by the market. DVD had the fastest market acceptance of any new format. Why? It provided a clear upagrade from LDs and VHS, but more importantly, THERE WAS NO COMPETING FORMAT. Early adopters of DVD could be very confident that their players would still work with later DVDs, just as their early DVDs would still work with later DVD players. Right now, we don't have that luxury. Even a hybrid solution just lessens the impact if one format were to go away entirely.
Personally, I don't think it's worth it because like you said, HD-DVD is heading toward failure. Once it becomes a failure, those other movie studios have no other option but to make movies for Blu-ray.

Toshiba is paying movie studios large sums of money to make movies for HD-DVD, but the problem is that where is Toshiba getting the money? Does Toshiba expect those movies to help it offset the cost needed to bribe those movie studios? We're talking about 150 million dollars just for 18 months of HD-DVD exclusivity. After that 18 months, those movie studios are going to go back to making movies for that format that's selling the most, which would be Blu-ray. The DVD market is lucrative, but that's only DVD, not Blu-ray or HD-DVD. Those haven't infiltrated the market enough to be highly profitable.Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player - Worth it?
As quoted from another of my posts:

**XBox releasing an HD/DVD player was a step-backwards. It was a loss of face. After condemning Sony's commitment to Blu Ray, they release a $200 add-on for an inferior competing format. It was like saying "You guys are stupid for going completely HD...but since you guys have already done it and it puts you way ahead, I guess we have to do it too." **

If (when?) 360 starts making games that are exclusive to the HD/DVD format, then it might be worth it. Since Blu Ray has more than 5 times the capacity of 360s current media, I think its inevitable that they'll start putting games on HD/DVD. But, until then its just an expensive paperweight. Movie-wise, HD/DVD is getting its @$$ kicked in the format war so unless you are REALLY into Hi-Def movies...just save your money.
Here's the thing: All the above are right in one way: HD-DVD is a dying breed, but Blu-ray is slowly dying, anyway... unless you want transformers really badly, just dont get either....

.....besides, some new technology that hybrid's all 3 formats(DVD,Blu-Ray, %26amp;HD-DVD.) was originally come out soon, but it has been "indefitenitly postponed" So you should wait for that, or you could just choose one of 3 sides: "Blu-Ray's side, HD-DVD's side, or Nobody's side".Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player - Worth it?
HD DVD and Blu-ray are not worth it because they are both dying formats. sorry, but it's the truth.
