How to clone ubuntu system on a cd or dvd?

i have ubuntu 10.04 soon ubuntu 10.10 will be coming out i want to save/clone my ubuntu system configuration to a cd so if something goes wrong with ubuntu 10.10 i want to install ubuntu 10.04 on my pc just like i left it with all the apps and updates installed on it is it possible to do something like this ?How to clone ubuntu system on a cd or dvd?
Definitely possible. I always do that. Would you be able to create a separate partition for 10.10? This way, you retain your original and install ubuntu to the new one?
