We have a multi state road trip coming up soon and I wanted to use my laptop as the source for playing dvds in the built in video system while we make our trip.
Due to it being several years old the dvd player that is built into the vehicle has trouble playing the newer dvds that we have but it does have RCA jacks to accept an external source.
Like my vehicle my laptop is also several years old so it doesn't have the s-video jack that would make my life easy lol.
On one side of the laptop I have a composite video-out jack (dunno if that is just video or if it audio and video together)
I also have the classic external monitor conector in the back
as for audio the only output i can see is the earphone jack.
I'll assume that there isn't one converter on the market that i can buy .. but I would like to do this with as few converters as possible
Thanks for your helpHow to use a laptop as a dvd player in the car?
well first off your laptop will need to have a dvd drive and will have to either have the rca jacks or have a video out slot which it probably dosent have. i dont think it will work on the tv in you car, but you can use anouther monitor from a desktop computer and use that as a bigger tv but it will be alot more trouble than it is worth. you are better off to either get a new laptop that has a tv tuner chip or just buy a new dvd player for you car or just get one of those new portable dvd players. good luckHow to use a laptop as a dvd player in the car?
why not just watch it on the laptop's screen? that's what i do.How to use a laptop as a dvd player in the car?
Previous answer is correct. You can purchase a portable DVD player now cheaper than you can rig up that laptop....especially if you have to install an internal DVD player. Laptops don't lend themselves well to internal installs like desk tops do.
Look at what you can get from ole' Wal-Mart
